Event: 2004 Hurricane Season
(Hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne)
The 2004 hurricane season was the worst on record for the state of Florida. During 44 days from August to September, Floridians either waited for a storm, braced for its coming, or tried to recover. Many people spent weeks without the bare necessities of water, food, ice or even a toilet.
The storms destroyed about 25,000 homes and damaged some 40,000 more. Base Logistics was there providing food, lodging and support to personnel assisting in the recovery operations.
Personnel:
- Deployed 30 personnel to field operations
- Base Logistics Incident Command Center remained operational for 58 consecutive days
Sites:
- 47 sites over four (4) storms
Catering:
- Deployed 31 catering units
- Prepared and served 400,000 meals
- All prepared and served on site
- 130,000 box lunches distributed
- 700,000 lbs of ice delivered
- 80 plus semi trailers of food delivered on site
Site Resources:
- 300 portable restrooms
- Sleeping tents to accomodate 800
- 480 roll away beds with linens and pillows
- Modular Sleeping quarters for 325
- Modular shower unit (12 head unit)
- Modular laundry unit (12 washers, 12 dryers)
- 36 30 yd roll off trash receptacles deployed and serviced
Managed construction of first FEMA/USACE Expedient Housing Site in Florida (Saufley Field, Pensacola )
Managed construction of four additional Expedient Housing Sites in Central Florida
